For large datasets it may be easier to import data from a database than to copy and paste the data.  Data can be imported in the the Individual Data grid from a Microsoft Access database.

To import data from a database select "Connect to Database" from the "File" menu.  Selecting this option gives a file open dialog box; use this to select the desired database, and the screen in below will appear.

All tables in the database appear in the Select Table box. Select a table, and all field in the table appear in the Select Time to Fail Field box, the Select Quantity Field box and the Select Censoring Field box. These selections are described below along with the Identifier for Failures box.

  1. Select Time to Fail Field: used to select the field in the table that contains the time to fail. All values must be greater than zero.

  2. Select Quantity Field: used to select the field in the table that contains the quantity corresponding to the Time to Fail Field. This selection is optional; if no selection is made the quantity will be one.

  3. Select Censoring Field: use to identify censored data points. This selection is optional; if no selection is made all data points will be treated as failures.

  4. Identifier for Failures: used in conjunction with the Identifier for Failures box. Input the exact text or number that is used to indicate a failure in the field selected in the Select Censoring Field box.
